Ingredients
Scale
- 1.5 lbs chicken breast, cut into 1-inch bite-sized pieces
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
- 1/3 cup honey
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)
- 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
Instructions
- Step 1: Prepare and Season the Chicken
Pat the chicken pieces dry with a paper towel to ensure maximum crispiness. In a large bowl or a zip-top bag, combine the chicken pieces with the salt and black pepper. Toss well so that every piece is lightly seasoned. - Step 2: Coat with Cornstarch
Add the cornstarch to the chicken. Shake or stir until every piece of chicken is thoroughly and evenly coated. This cornstarch layer is the secret to getting that thin, crispy crust that the sauce will cling to. - Step 3: Pan-Fry the Chicken
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the chicken in a single layer, being careful not to overcrowd the pan (work in batches if necessary). Fry for about 3-4 minutes per side until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken and set it aside on a plate. - Step 4: Prepare the Honey Garlic Sauce
In the same skillet (wipe out excess oil if needed), add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Pour in the honey, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar. Stir the mixture and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce begins to bubble and thicken slightly. - Step 5: Toss and Glaze
Add the crispy chicken pieces back into the skillet. Toss quickly to ensure every piece is fully coated in the sticky honey garlic sauce. Let it cook for one more minute so the sauce adheres to the coating. Remove from heat immediately to keep the chicken crispy. - Step 6: Garnish and Serve
Transfer the chicken to a serving plate. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and fresh sliced green onions for a pop of color and extra flavor.
